Delve into culture and nature

As a nature and culture lover, I would put Northern Vietnam in my first words, highlighted by Northern Hill tribes, the famous Ha Giang loop motorbike adventure, the highest peak of Southeast Asia- Fansipan mountain, the most spectacular Golden rice terrace fields, and much thrilling hiking trials across different national parks. And of course, cannot miss the magnificent Ha Long Bay. Followed by the stunning Phong Nha-Ke Bang national park which possesses many mind-blowing caves such as Paradise Cave- the longest dry cave in Asia and Doong Cave- the largest cave in the words.

Although the country is landlocked, Laos has no lack of national parks, waterfalls, and panoramic views. Anyone who looks to dive into nature will be absolutely satisfied with the stunning Li Phi Falls, Si Pha Don archipelago in the Mekong River, or looks to delve deep into the culture and won’t be disappointed with the Almsgiving Ceremony in Luang Prabang- a longstanding tradition in Laos Buddhist culture.

Besides its incredible Khmer Empire history and wonder Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the words, Cambodia has so much more to offer, from the pristine beaches of Koh Rong Samloem with hammocks slung between coconut palms, the architectural feats of Preah Vihear temple to the untouched Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island).

Tick off the UNESCO World Heritage Sites lists

There is another way to list things down on my bucket list. I chase the extraordinary natural diversity, vibrant culture, and remarkable urban landscapes by crossing off the list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO World Heritage Sites)

Proudly, Vietnam is also home to eight out of more than 1,000 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

  • Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Hanoi
  • Citadel of the Ho Dynasty
  • The complex of Huế Monuments
  • Ha Long Bay
  • Hoi An Ancient Town
  • My Son Sanctuary
  • Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park
  • Trang An Landscape Complex

There are three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Laos and those are all cultural sites.

  • Town of Luang Prabang
  • Vat Phou and Associated Ancient Settlements Within the Champasak Cultural Landscape
  • Megalithic Jar Sites in Xiengkhuang- Plain of Jars

Sharing similarities with Laos, Cambodia also has three cultural UNESCO World Heritage Sites as the followings:

  • Angkor Wat, also known as the “City of Temples”
  • Preah Vihear Temple (2008)
  • Temple Zone Of Sambor Prei Kuk, Archaeological Site of Ancient Ishanapura

I have ticked off a number of things on my bucket list while engrossing these three majestic Indochina countries, what are yours?

Besides my unlimited passion for traveling, a professional tour guide for over a decade, I have been taking photographs since sitting at Hanoi of the University of Culture in the early 2000s. Photography started as a hobby but it was seriously taken due to my work relations and my significant passion for the beauty of our world, especially in Southeast Asian parts such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

Within a few years of taking photographs, my works began to be recognized by many reliable international publications such as AFAR Travel, The Times, and The Daily Telegraph newspaper. In addition, I continuously add to my growing profile by winning numerous major awards: 3rd Position of The Independent Photographer 2018, 1st Position of Amateur Photographer of the year 2018, Grand Prize Winner of the AFAR Travel Photography 2019, and a Gold Award of San Francisco Bay International Photography 2020.

I photograph a wide variety of subjects, from travel to landscapes to street scenes. I enjoy documenting the East’s rich cultural heritage and its land soaked in glorious sunrise or sunset light in remote and secluded spots.
