In a significant move aimed at boosting tourism, investment, business collaboration, and scientific research, Vietnam has unveiled a new policy granting electronic visas (e-visas) to citizens from all nations and territories entering the country. Effective August 15, this decision represents a substantial expansion of the previous e-visa program.

After the pandemic, Vietnam only provided 30-day single-entry e-visas to individuals from 80 designated countries. However, a recent government resolution has ushered in a transformational change. Under the new policy, the Vietnam Immigration Department will issue e-visas through an electronic transaction system, allowing multiple entries over a 90-day period.

This development marks a considerable leap in convenience and accessibility for international travelers. Thirteen major airports, including Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Cam Ranh, Da Nang, Cat Bi, Can Tho, Phu Quoc, Phu Bai, Van Don, Tho Xuan, Dong Hoi, Phu Cat, and Lien Khuong, have been authorized to facilitate entry and exit for foreign visitors using the e-visa system.

Furthermore, the new e-visa scheme encompasses land and sea borders, with 16 land border gates and 13 sea border gates now accommodating e-visa holders. The land border crossings include Tay Trang in Dien Bien Province, Mong Cai in Quang Ninh, Huu Nghi in Lang Son, Lao Cai, Na Meo in Thanh Hoa, Nam Can in Nghe An, Cau Treo in Ha Tinh, Cha Lo in Quang Binh, La Lay and Lao Bao in Quang Tri, Bo Y in Kon Tum, Moc Bai and Xa Mat in Tay Ninh, Tinh Bien and Vinh Xuong in An Giang, and Ha Tien in Kien Giang. Meanwhile, sea border gates such as Hon Gai and Cam Pha in Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Nghi Son in Thanh Hoa, Vung Ang in Ha Tinh, Chan May in Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa, Quy Nhon in Binh Dinh, Dung Quat in Quang Ngai, Vung Tau in Ba Ria Vung Tau, HCMC, and Duong Dong in Kien Giang also facilitate e-visa holders.

Simultaneously, another favorable adjustment has been introduced for citizens of select countries. Citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus, who are unilaterally exempted from visas by Vietnam, will now be able to extend their stays from 15 to 45 days. This extension applies regardless of passport type or entry purpose.

The extension of stays for citizens of these countries is the result of a policy approved by the National Assembly in June, with the primary objective of enhancing Vietnam’s attractiveness to international visitors. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s tourism industry, encourage increased investment, foster business collaborations, and promote scientific research endeavors.

Foreigners can access the e-visa application platform through the Vietnam Immigration Department’s website (https://www.immigration.gov.vn ) or the National Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security (https://dichvucong.bocongan.gov.vn/ ).

All travel details, including the planned entry date, length of stay, intended entry and exit points, and temporary address in Vietnam, must be provided.

When completing the e-visa application, individuals should choose between a single-entry or multiple-entry visa based on their travel purpose.

Applicants are required to furnish passport information and upload images of the passport data page and passport photo.
