Home » Uncategorized » How is the weather of Ha Giang in 4 seasons?

Ha Giang is stunning year-round, with its weather varying by season and altitude. It experiences two main seasons: rainy and dry. Each season – spring, summer, autumn, and winter – offers unique attractions for visitors.

The best time to visit depends on your personal preferences. Ftrip Vietnam provides details on Ha Giang weather to help you plan and prepare for your trip effectively.

How Is Ha Giang Weather?

Spring ( Jan – April)

In my opinion, spring, especially in March, is the best time to travel to Ha Giang. During this season, plum and peach blossoms start to bloom, covering the entire province, including Ha Giang, Dong Van, and Meo Vac, with their white and pink flowers. It’s as if Ha Giang awakens from a long slumber, ready to showcase its beauty.

Spring is also the dry season, meaning there’s less rain. The temperature is pleasant, ranging from 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for trekking. However, in January and February, the temperature is cooler, around 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. This can be chilly for motorbike rides, so it’s essential to prepare warm, windproof clothing and good gloves to stay comfortable.

Spring coincides with Tet, the Lunar New Year celebrated in Vietnam and China. Traveling during this time offers numerous opportunities to participate in vibrant local festivals held throughout Vietnam.

Summer (May- Aug)

April remains the ideal month to visit Ha Giang, with its comfortable temperatures ranging from 17 to 20 degrees Celsius. This makes it perfect for both motorbike and trekking trips. The clear, blue sky allows visitors to fully appreciate the stunning landscape and capture beautiful photos.

In May and June, the Ha Giang weather becomes hotter and more extreme, with daytime temperatures reaching between 30 and 37 degrees Celsius. It’s essential to bring sunglasses, sun cream, and wear long-sleeved shirts and pants to protect your skin.

During summer, the days are longer, so for motorbike or trekking trips, it’s advisable to start early and rest at noon. The midday heat in Vietnam, including Ha Giang, can be intense compared to Western countries. To avoid exhaustion, everyone should take a short nap and stay indoors or in the shade during the hottest part of the day.

Despite the timing, you can still capture unique photos and have memorable experiences when visiting Ha Giang. Farmers are beginning their work in the fields. In the high mountains, the Hmong and Dao people are planting corn. Meanwhile, in the lowlands, the Tay people are irrigating the rice fields. By June, most landscapes are lush and green with crops.

Autumn ( Sep to Oct)

During your trip to Ha Giang, you’ll pass through Yen Minh district, one of the four districts within Dong Van Geo Park. This area is known for its expansive rice terraces covering the mountains. These terraces turn a golden hue when the rice ripens, with September and October being the prime months to witness their beauty.

During this period, temperatures and rainfall decrease slightly, averaging between 25-30 degrees Celsius. This makes it an ideal time for trekking or motorbiking activities. Consequently, you’ll likely encounter many Vietnamese tourists traveling during this season.

Winter ( Nov- Dec)

In November, it’s the season of buckwheat flowers, which are famously found only in Ha Giang. Historically, these flowers were a food source for people. Now, tourists admire their beauty, making them a well-known symbol of Ha Giang’s tourism in November.

During this time, the weather is ideal for various activities. There is minimal rain, no waterfalls, no landslides, and clear skies. You can opt for a 3 or 4-day motorbike trip to explore Ha Giang.

Alternatively, you can spend more time trekking around the rocky terrain, delving into the local life and culture with a 3 or 5-day trekking trip.

In December, certain areas of Ha Giang such as Dong Van and Meo Vac, situated at high altitudes, experience occasional snowfall and freezing temperatures. It’s common for the mercury to drop below 0-5 degrees Celsius, making it advisable to pack plenty of warm clothing.
