Have you watched the Water Puppet Show before?
Like its name, the Water Puppet is a unique Vietnamese traditional art that uses handcrafted wooden characters to perform on a stage full of water. A large bamboo rod supports the puppet under the water and is used by the puppeteers. In the past, when the rice fields flooded, the villagers would entertain each other using this form of puppet play. Learn more: Hanoi tours
Water puppet performances tell stories about the daily life of Vietnamese farmers, communal entertainment (e.g., swimming contests, dragon dancing), or historical legends. A traditional Vietnamese orchestra provides background music accompaniment with drums, wooden bells, bamboo flutes, and more. Today, the newer version of this show incorporates modern light and music with the combination between people and puppets.
