Vietnam weather in July

In Northern and Southern Vietnam, June rainfall will continue into July. Bring your rain gear and bug repellant, as the environment allows mosquitoes to breed and carry dangerous diseases, even in urban areas. Expect plenty of hot weather when it’s not raining, though, and take advantage ò it. Coastal Central Vietnam will continue to enjoy pleasant days filled with sunshine. Da Lat and the Central Highlands can still be visited, but hiking at this point is inadvisable because of rain.

Crowds & Costs

July is the very peak of the tourist season in Vietnam. Be prepared for crowds and hiked costs everywhere you go. Don’t be afraid to haggle if visiting local markets (unless there are signs telling you not to do it) – unscrupulous business people will jack up the prices at the first sight of a tourist.

Where to go in Vietnam in July

Hoi An

Hoi An is one of the best places to visit in Vietnam. This peaceful former harbor town has stood steadfast against the uncaring flow of time. Moss-wreathed tiled roofs, roads submerged in the red of lanterns, ornate decorations, all seem to take us into a world of hundreds of years ago and enthrall us. The picturesque neighborhoods offer much to the traveler. You can see Cau Pagoda/Japanese (Covered) Bridge, built by merchants for easier travel and topped with a temple to placate an earthquake-causing monster The Fukien Assembly Hall, a charming example of Hoi An’s multi-cultural environment, was built for Fukien (Chinese) immigrants and their descendants to gather, and worship a sea goddess. Finally, you can take a cruise down the Thu Bon river, or just its inner-city tributary Hoai river, and see the floating lanterns and rich life on either side.

Da Nang

Locals are quite proud of Da Nang’s status as Vietnam’s most livable city, an assessment that many visitors can certainly agree with. The vibrantly modern and scrupulously clean city is blessed with natural wonders and easygoing, friendly people. In addition to beach trips, you can climb the Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son/Five Elements Mountains) to see the Buddhist temples within and get a wonderful view of the city up top. Ba Na Hills is a massive entertainment complex that provides fun and relaxation for the whole family.

Hue

The genteel and cultured former capital still charms visitors with its mystique from a past era, the final glories of the Emperors before they made way for the inexorable flow of history. Here in Hue, everything is art; from food (dinner can be a feast for all the senses with perfect balances of yin and yang) to buildings, from clothing to manners, all convene in that rarified aesthetic that is complicated yet easy to love. Try some of the city’s famous dishes: cơm hến (rice with baby basket clams), bún bò Huế (beef noodles), or nem lui (pork lemongrass skewers).

Nha Trang

The seaside city of Nha Trang is one of the places to be for a relaxing, fun-filled holiday. The VinWonders theme park and Vinpearl resort offer a getaway for tourists with many activities to take them away from the stress of daily life. The Institute of Oceanography is a learning experience with exhibits and information on Vietnam’s dazzling marine diversity – plus the only restored whale skeleton in the country. Doc Let beach attracts many tourists, but still keeps its pristine beauty.

Da Lat

In July, the city is rainy and quite unpredictable, though the rains may vanish as soon as they arrive. They may interrupt your itinerary and send you diving for cover, but in exchange they help ease the uncomfortable summer heat. If you wake up early and choose a good vantage point, such as Thien Phuc Duc hill, you can find yourself among the clouds. Many romantic photo ops can also be had at Da Lat’s various flower fields. July’s offerings include sunflowers, hydrangeas, and even lavenders for a taste of France.

What to do in Vietnam in July

Heading to beaches in Hoi An, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc

Unlike the darker sands of the beaches in the North (giving the unfortunate impression that the water is dirty), Central and South Vietnam is picture-perfect with pure white sand that sparkles under the sunlight and crystal-clear azure waters. Wade in the cool sea, relax under an umbrella, or participate in the many activities on offer: snorkeling, scuba diving, high-speed boat rides.

Explore UNESCO World Heritages in Hue & Hoi An

UNESCO recognized these two cities for their “exceptionally well-preserved” historical sites: the Imperial Citadel in Hue and Hoi An Old Town. Hue has the distinction of being the last capital of feudal-era Vietnam, home to the Nguyen Dynasty. Hoi An was once a thriving harbor town with immigrants from China, Japan, and beyond, and the only town of its kind in Southeast Asia to survive almost intact to this day.

Discover the beauty of Vietnam by traveling from the north to the south by train

The rail system stretching from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city (there are plans to extend it even further) will take you through a vast array of sceneries, from passing by urban buildings so closely you could almost touch them, to watching majestic mountains and vast bodies of water fly past. You can stop at any of its thirteen stations, then hop back on any of the 40 daily trains on this line. (Buy tickets for your destinations and watch the schedule, though!) Seats and beds are available, as are meals, snacks, drinks, and special food from each province.

Vietnam in July: Events & Holiday

Tra Co Festival

In the border town of Mong Cai, Quang Ninh, every year at the end of the lunar fifth and sixth month, a spectacular celebration is organized. It is held in honor of the founding families who traveled here from Do Son (Hai Phong province) to start a new life. Twelve families (a once-in-a-lifetime honor) are chosen at the start of the year to each raise a pig for the occasion. The pig is referred to as Ông Voi (Lord Elephant), and its every need is tended to meticulously. During the ceremony, the twelve pigs will be paraded, and then one perfect specimen will be picked as an offering to the venerated ancestors.

Besides my unlimited passion for traveling, a professional tour guide for over a decade, I have been taking photographs since sitting at Hanoi of the University of Culture in the early 2000s. Photography started as a hobby but it was seriously taken due to my work relations and my significant passion for the beauty of our world, especially in Southeast Asian parts such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

Within a few years of taking photographs, my works began to be recognized by many reliable international publications such as AFAR Travel, The Times, and The Daily Telegraph newspaper. In addition, I continuously add to my growing profile by winning numerous major awards: 3rd Position of The Independent Photographer 2018, 1st Position of Amateur Photographer of the year 2018, Grand Prize Winner of the AFAR Travel Photography 2019, and a Gold Award of San Francisco Bay International Photography 2020.

I photograph a wide variety of subjects, from travel to landscapes to street scenes. I enjoy documenting the East’s rich cultural heritage and its land soaked in glorious sunrise or sunset light in remote and secluded spots. And, I am very happy to share my knowledge and experience with you. You can visit Luminousvietnamtour to explore tour!
